bullet STUDIES (Scroll down for case studies)

Sox For Horses, Inc invites equine owners to participate in studies when photos of either very bad cases of dermatitis or injuries on the legs have been submitted. With these cases, SFHs has the opportunity to see how effective the Silver Whinnys™ ( also known as Summer Whinnys®) can be as a source of wound/sore protection. There are instances where owners, that were not a designated "study", sent photo chronologies of their own experience with the socks. In those cases a note will indicate that the "results are a customer's voluntary submission of results."

Sox For Horses, Inc. makes no claims that Silver Whinnys™/ Summer Whinnys® can heal or prevent conditions on equine legs. These studies/or contributions were conducted by the owners and/or caretakers of the horses involved and the comments are their own comments based on their experience with the socks.

The owners/or trainers are asked to change the socks daily with clean socks.
Silver Whinnys™ provide the following qualities as wound protection:

  1. The socks machine-wash and dry and should be machine-washed and dried to remove optimum dirt and debris.
  2. The knit allows air to reach the tissue of wound or sore but is does not allow debris and flies to reach the tissue surface.
  3. The yarn wicks moisture and body serums from the wound or sore creating a dry tissue surface. The moisture management qualities of the yarn keep legs cool even in the heat of summer. Bacteria and fungi propagate best in warm, moist conditions and the socks defeat those conditions.
  4. Embedded particles of silver are embedded in the yarns that act to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and mold in the socks. The silver will not degrade or wash out and is there for the life of the socks. The particles of silver are small enough to invade microbe cell walls and break down the vital functions of those cells. Lab results (AATCC 100 Test Method) are available upon request. Changing the socks daily insures that the silver is at its greatest ability to keep the socks clean over the course of 24 hours. Changing socks twice a day is recommended if the weather is constantly wet, the grounds muddy and the animal is in constant turn out. When an owner can change the socks twice a day on persistent sores or severe injuries, all the better.

If you have any questions about any of the studies, contact Sox For Horses, Inc. 850-907-5724. Greater study details are available and upon request by veterinarians and the owners are willing to speak to inquiring veterinarians. Inquiries can also be made by email.
